Aafia Siddiqui, a 33-year-old Boston neuroscientist and the mother
of three young children, became the most wanted woman in the world
on May 26, 2004. That was the day U.S. Attorney General John
Ashcroft strode onto a Washington podium lined with gigantic
black-and-white mug shots of Aafia and six Muslim men. Standing
there,
Ashcroft
grimly warned the American people that every one of the individuals
pictured could be involved in a plot to 'hit the United States.'
'They're all sought in connection with terrorist threats against the
United States,' he intoned in typically sonorous fashion. 'They all
pose a clear and present danger to the U.S. They all should be
considered armed and dangerous.' With black hair severely pulled
back and her mouth set in an uncompromising line, the diminutive
Aafia looked at least as menacing in her FBI photo as the others,
and U.S. officials soon were saying privately that the only woman
officially named as an al-Qaeda operative might well be the most
threatening of them all.
Dr Aafia had been apprehended and shifted to Butgram Air Base, sub
headquarter of American Army in Afghanistan with her young and
innocent children. After the breakup story of western journalist the
American Government transferred her to the America and produced
before the American Court after the illegal detention tenure of four
years. Dr. Aafia in now has been waiting of justice by the American
Courts and also the Nature.
It is interesting and pertinent to state that when Taliban had acted
the flogging of a girl, all of the Western and pro western media,
NGOs had scream upon them. No doubt their act was unlawful,
unethical and irresponsible but the Dr. Aafia is not pity women
which has been detained since long time just on ground of bogus
charges. Why the NGOs and Western Media playing role of hypocrisy
and duplicity. If the Taliban are the enemy of humanity, the later
are same.
The American nation stands on base of justice and equality and it's
the secret of their success and rule. The American public must
ascertain the facts regarding the blames on Dr. Aafia and should act
against the double standard, which is creating the frustration and
abhorrence in Muslim world.
It is the indispensable that American Government should release Dr.
Aafia and pardon her so that the justice and equality motto come in
true.
I would like to share the feeling and reaction of renowned Dr
Shireen M Mazari, which has been published in The News on 12th May
2009.
"After reading US Charge d'Affaires Gerald Feierstein's letter on
May 10, I realise that not only does the US simply not comprehend
Pakistan and its people (as opposed to its sycophant leaders), it is
also unable to understand the simple English language of Pakistani
newspapers. Otherwise Mr Feierstein would have realised that the
news item he was responding to was in fact an account of the report
by the previous Senate Foreign Relations Committee's all-party
delegation, headed by Mushahid Hussain, on their meeting with Dr
Siddiqui in New York as part of their fact-finding mission. Ms
Baabar, a senior and responsible journalist, has simply cited the
finding of this report.
So is the US official now accusing our senators of misrepresenting
or sensationalising the facts which could be a breach of privilege
by a diplomat? As for his account, it sounds ridiculous given the
amount of information now available to show the US abuse and torture
of Dr Aafia and possible killing of one of her children. If we
believe him on this count, we may as well believe that no abuse ever
happens at US hands in Bagram, or Guantanamo or Abu Ghraib or the
countless secret prisons across the globe. Too bad, facts now on the
record reveal the contrary so Mr Feierstein should acquire some
moral courage to admit his country's torture and abuse of Muslim
prisoners who are in fact proven guilty before any trial!"
